2009 April 28 -- Please remember to "share" your NoodleBib lists with me -- see instructions, below. I will be reviewing them after school on Friday, May 1 -- look for my comments on Monday.
2009 April 24 -- Enjoy your field trip today, and remember to send me an e-mail if you are having trouble researching your topic. I want you all to be successful and do well on this project.
2009 April 23 -- CHANGE TO ASSIGNMENT: You will not be including "in-text citations" when you write this paper. Please cross that off of your assignment page. Look in the pink table cell, above, for the correct version that I am calling Version 2.0.
2009 April 23 -- Welcome, Math 7 students! You will be spending today and tomorrow with me as you prepare to research your topic (see list above in pink table cell).

Library's Online Databases

Science Resource Center

Enter your search topic. Avoid articles in the "Academic Journals" tab:

Encyclopedia Britannica

Enter your topic. When your results come back, check first with the Compton's Encyclopedia as it is geared toward Middle School students. Also look for multimedia (images, video) and websites:

Grolier Multimedia Encyclopedia

Enter your search topic. Again, look for multimedia and websites:

Discovery Streaming

This is THE PLACE to start your search for an illustration for the "virtual third page" of your assignment. Enter your search topic, using quotes for phrases:

Passwords for off-campus access are on Mrs. Lowry's website.

Print Sources

In the Dewey Decimal System, the mathematics books are collocated in the 510 section. My recommendations for this assignment include:

The Facts on File Dictionary of Mathematics (REF 510 FAC)
World of Mathematics (REF 510 WOR) -- A little high level, but all of our topics are covered in this book.
Universal Encyclopedia of Mathematics (REF 510.03 UNI)
Math & Mathematicians (REF 510.92 BRU) -- EVERYONE should check out this resource -- it is perfectly suited to this assignment.

"Online Resources" means anything you found in the library's collection of subscription databases, like Grolier or Encyclopedia Britannica Online.

Try limiting your Google search to reputable websites by limiting your search to specific domains. For this assignment, I suggest that you limit your web searches to .edu or .org or .net websites. This will also work for Google's Image search. In front of your search terms, add the following text:

site:edu    OR    site:org    OR    site:net
Some examples:
site:edu binary number
site:edu googol
site:org probability mathematical
site:edu mobius strip
site:edu bridges of konigsberg
NOTE: you may find it useful to qualify your topic by adding the term "mathematical"
