BOOKS
-
Go to Destiny, the library's online catalog, and construct
a Boolean search expression (see pink box, above right).
-
A Keyword search will locate your keywords anywhere in the record
(title, description, subject listings):
george AND washington
-
A Subject search is like a tagged picture in facebook -- a librarian has tagged this book
with the keywords you enter in the search box:
washington. (Make sure to select the Browse tab on the screen that follows.)
-
Call numbers beginning with J are in the Lower School Library.
-
Call numbers beginning with "BIO" are biographies and are
shelved separately, to the right of the reference section.
ENCYCLOPEDIA ARTICLES
-
To find an encyclopedia article about your person, go to Destiny and
conduct a Keyword search using one of these Boolean expression:
encyclopedia AND biograph* encyclopedia AND america*
-
For general biographical encyclopedias, go to the REF 920
area of the reference section.

either a book that you can hold in your hands
or an article that you found in a subscription database, then you MUST
select an option from the highlighted part of the drop-down menu:
Then, on the screen that follows, you can select "Print" if it is a book or periodical
that you are holding in your hands, or "Online" if it is digitized content from a book or
periodical that you accessed with a web browser:
The remaining screens are intuitive and straightforward.

Try limiting your Google search to reputable websites by limiting your search
to specific domains. In front of your search terms, add the following text:
site:edu site:gov site:org
Some examples:
site:edu mary mcleod bethune
